Sensational 7 Q & A with Denise Jaden!

Have you ever wanted to know what it would be like to hang out with your favorite author(s)? In an attempt to get a better understanding of authors, my Sensational Seven Q & A takes a closer or more personal look at these authors to give you a glimpse of the personalities behind the writing of your favorite books.

“Talent alone cannot make a writer. There must be a man behind the book; a personality which, by birth and quality, is pledged to the doctrines there set forth, and which exists to see and state things so, and not otherwise.” By Ralph Waldo Emerson

Denise Jaden's writing has appeared in Mississippi Crow Magazine (Spring, 2008), The Greensilk Journal (Fall 2007 - where her story, LOCKED AWAY, won an Editor's Choice Award),and The Tidepool Fiction Ezine. Her novels have received various awards through Romance Writers of America. Her first novel for teens, LOSING FAITH, is forthcoming from Simon Pulse/Simon & Schuster in September 2010. She lives just outside Vancouver, Canada with her husband and son.

LOSING FAITH is in stores today!

If you were given a chance to travel back in time, what year or place would you go / Why?
Hmm. I think I’d go back to meet Joan of Arc. She’s so gutsy and smart, and I think she would be a true inspiration to be around.

Describe your novel in seven words or less?
Sisters, loss, mystery, religion, friendship, romance, cult

Please share with us about your favorite book and fictional crush to date?
Oooh, way too hard!! I can’t name one favorite book without naming ten, so I’ll have to go with fictional crush – I have a couple I can think of offhand. Dean from Sarra Manning’s GUITAR GIRL and Wes from Sarah Dessen’s THE TRUTH ABOUT FOREVER. Two totally different guys, but appealing in different ways. Dean is the anger-invoking guy who is way too sexy to hate; Wes is the tender-hearted artist. Yes, I have eclectic tastes in guys!

If you could be any character in fiction, whom would you be / Why?
I don’t know that I’d permanently want to be any character, but if I could be one for a day, I would choose Macy from THE TRUTH ABOUT FOREVER. You know, because of the above stuff about Wes J.

If Hollywood made a movie about your life, whom would you like to see play thelead role as you/ Why?
Rachel McAdams. My husband thinks she looks a little like me (*faints and kisses his feet*), she’s short like me and leans more toward the cute than the sexy, which sadly, is probably me too.

If someone wrote a biography about you, what do you think the title should be – please explain?
Shake It Up! – First of all, I spend a lot of time performing with my Polynesian dance troupe and shaking my hips. But also, my life has been full of variety and I’m constantly trying new things. For example, I’ve worked as everything from a mushroom farmer to a jewelry manager, a chicken cook to a church secretary.

How would you describe yourself/life in seven words?
Read, write, teach, gym, cook, laugh, sleep

Bonus:

**Is there any additional info you would like to share with your readers about what’s next for you and your books?**
I’m working on another YA contemporary at the moment called PERFECT AIM. It’s about a teen archer who shoots off target in a number of areas in her life – igniting family war, falling in with the wrong crowd, and then falling hard for the wrong guy.

Thanks for stopping by Denise!

  18. I love how "sleep" comes last in the 7 words about yourself. Doesn't it always seem like sleep is sometimes an "if there's time" thing?
