Have you ever wanted to know what it would be like to hang out with your favorite author(s)? In an attempt to get a better understanding of authors, my Sensational Seven Q & A takes a closer or more personal look at these authors to give you a glimpse of the personalities behind the writing of your favorite books.
“Talent alone cannot make a writer. There must be a man behind the book; a personality which, by birth and quality, is pledged to the doctrines there set forth, and which exists to see and state things so, and not otherwise.” By Ralph Waldo Emerson
CARRIE HARRIS is a geek of all trades and proud of it. Brains are her specialty; she used to work in a lab where they were delivered daily via FedEx. After that, it seemed only natural to write a zombie book. Now she lives in Michigan with her ninja doctor husband and three zombie-obsessed children.BAD TASTE IN BOYS is her first novel. It will be released July 12, 2011!
If you were given a chance to travel back in time, what year or place would you go / Why?
There are a lot of places and times that I would LIKE to visit, but I really should visit Ohio in the early 90s. I need to tell Young Me some very important things, like wearing a plaid beret and hanging in coffee shops does not make you a serious writer. And cutting your hair is a BAD idea. Oh, and 90% of the guys you will want to date over the next few years are NOT GOOD FOR YOU. One is a small time mobster and one has been in jail and one will get a cue ball stuck in his mouth.
Maybe that’s self-centered, but I think of it as a public service. This way, my friends will have to put up with much less complaining from me.

Describe your novel in seven words or less?
Geek girl meets football playing zombie mayhem.
Please share with us about your favorite book and fictional crush to date? I can only pick ONE? How am I supposed to pick ONE? Because my fictional crush is this mutant combo of a bunch of different characters. I like to call him Etierenjonaley. He’s a Frankensteinian combo of Etienne from ANNA AND THE FRENCH KISS, Ren from NIGHTSHADE, Jonah from BAD TASTE IN BOYS, and Wesley from THE DUFF. All I need is a secret lair and a table hooked up to a big lightning rod, and he’s ALL MINE.
If you could be any character in fiction, whom would you be / Why?
When I was a kid, I really wanted to be Meg Murray from A WRINKLE IN TIME, which wasn’t really that big of a stretch. But now, I’d probably be Tally from THE UGLIES, before she gets the razorblade teeth. Because I’d really like to go hoverboarding and jump off buildings and pull all those crazy stunts.
If Hollywood made a movie about your life, whom would you like to see play thelead role as you/ Why?
Well, my first choice for any film role is David Hasselhoff, because I like to laugh, and the thought of the Hoff as Gandalf CRACKS ME UP. And the thought of the Hoff as me CRACKS ME UP. But if that’s not possible, I might go for Zooey Deschanel. I don’t think she’d have any problem with my kooky sense of humor or my tendency to break out into the cabbage patch whenever I’m excited.
If someone wrote a biography about you, what do you think the title should be – please explain?
I’d call it SNARF. Because really, my life has been defined by those moments when I laughed so hard that things came out my nose.
How would you describe yourself/life in seven words?
