"Don't worry, Anna. I'll tell her, okay? Just let me think about the best way to do it."
"Okay."
"Promise me? Promise you won't say anything?"
"Don't worry." I laughed. "It's our secret, right?"
According to her best friend Frankie, twenty days in Zanzibar Bay is the perfect opportunity to have a summer fling, and if they meet one boy ever day, there's a pretty good chance Anna will find her first summer romance. Anna lightheartedly agrees to the game, but there's something she hasn't told Frankie---she's already had that kind of romance, and it was with Frankie's older brother, Matt, just before his tragic death one year ago.
This is Ockler’s debut novel and she did a fantastic job. Twenty Boy Summer is a beautifully written story about Love, Loss, Friendship & Finding oneself. I was glued to the pages from beginning to end. This is an emotional and heartfelt story; I don’t know how many times I teared up reading this book.
I absolutely fell in love with these characters. The characters are so relatable. Anna and Frankie are typical teenagers dealing with peer pressure and temptation along the way. Frankie is a hoot and I found myself practically laughing at almost everything that came out of her mouth. She reminds me of one of my friends with her misuse of words. She’ll say, “I’m contempting changing my wardrobe.” I'll say, “It’s contemplating!” Anna and Frankie are BFs and they’re on a mission to have the A.B.S.E (Absolute Best Summer Ever) in Zanzibar Bay. Anna is keeping a secret from Frankie while trying to help her cope with the loss of Matt, but this vacation doesn’t go as planned when everything comes crashing down around them. What will these friends do to hold on to a bond that’s coming unglued by the storm and will they be able to survive it? Find out for yourself!
I did not want the story to end and found myself wondering about Anna’s and Frankie’s future. This is one of those books where I would love a sequel. How about it Sarah?
This is a great summer read, go check Twenty Boy Summer out!
